What decides the number

Five things about your Mew, in order of how much they matter.

  1. Which printing. Mew spans 32 sets, from Wizards Black Star Promos in 1999 to Paldean Fates in 2024, and the set symbol beside the picture is what tells one from another before anything else about the card is worth discussing.
  2. Which card type. A Mew ex and a Mew V are different cards that happen to share a name — Mew has been printed as 8 types in all, so the word beside Mew at the top decides which of the 49 you own.
  3. Promo stamps. 10 of the 49 Mew cards were promos rather than pack pulls, and a black star, a tournament stamp or a set-launch mark in the corner is what separates one Mew promo from another with the same picture.
  4. The Gold Star one. 1 Mew card carries the Gold Star treatment — if the symbol ★ sits after Mew on your card, that is the first thing to tell us.
  5. Centering. Hold your Mew at arm’s length and look at the border: a Mew with a visibly fatter margin on one side is capped on grade before condition is even discussed, and with 6 of the 49 from Fusion Strike alone, that is the set to check most carefully.
