Tyranitar · 36 cards · 2001–2025

How much is a Tyranitar card worth?

There are 36 English Tyranitar cards, spread over 26 sets between 2001 and 2025. The first was Tyranitar in Neo Discovery, 1 June 2001, drawn by Hironobu Yoshida in the Neo era. It has carried 6 of the game's card types over the years — V, Dark, ex, ex — and a collector will pay wildly different money for each.

What we pay is a different number. These are TCGplayer market prices, worked out from recent sales between collectors, read 2026-09-08. What a buyer pays is always less than what a collector pays, and it turns on the condition of the card in your hand — which is why you get our number on the phone, in one call, before anything is posted.

Spaced by ratio, not by dollars, so the cheap end stays readable. Tap a handle to jump to that card. 9 of the 36 have no market price on file.

What decides the number

Five things about your Tyranitar, in order of how much they matter.

  1. Which printing. Tyranitar spans 26 sets, from Neo Discovery in 2001 to Destined Rivals in 2025, and the set symbol beside the picture is what tells one from another before anything else about the card is worth discussing.
  2. Which card type. A Tyranitar V and a Tyranitar Dark are different cards that happen to share a name — Tyranitar has been printed as 6 types in all, so the word beside Tyranitar at the top decides which of the 36 you own.
  3. Promo stamps. 2 of the 36 Tyranitar cards were promos rather than pack pulls, and a black star, a tournament stamp or a set-launch mark in the corner is what turns an otherwise ordinary Tyranitar into the scarce one.
  4. The Shining ones. 1 Tyranitar card carries the Shining treatment, printed deliberately short — if the word Shining sits before Tyranitar on your card, that is the first thing to tell us.
  5. Centering. Hold your Tyranitar at arm’s length and look at the border: a Tyranitar with a visibly fatter margin on one side is capped on grade before condition is even discussed, and the Battle Styles printings are the ones we see off-centre most often.
  • Most Tyranitar cards are Rare Holo — 11 of the 36.
  • Hironobu Yoshida has illustrated Tyranitar more than anyone else, 3 times.
  • Battle Styles carries the most Tyranitar cards of any single set (3).
  • Tyranitar has been printed under 6 card types: V, Dark, ex (2003–07), ex (modern), Shining, Delta Species.
  • No Tyranitar card was printed at all for 3 years, 2013 to 2016.
  • 24 different illustrators have drawn Tyranitar.
  • 24 years separate the first Tyranitar card from the newest.
