Blastoise · 32 cards · 1999–2024

How much is a Blastoise card worth?

There are 32 English Blastoise cards, spread over 21 sets between 1999 and 2024. The first was Blastoise in Base, 9 January 1999, drawn by Ken Sugimori in the very first English sets. It has carried 8 of the game's card types over the years — Tag Team, ex, Dark, ex — and a collector will pay wildly different money for each.

What we pay is a different number. These are TCGplayer market prices, worked out from recent sales between collectors, read 2026-09-08. What a buyer pays is always less than what a collector pays, and it turns on the condition of the card in your hand — which is why you get our number on the phone, in one call, before anything is posted.

Spaced by ratio, not by dollars, so the cheap end stays readable. Tap a handle to jump to that card. 3 of the 32 have no market price on file.

What decides the number

Five things about your Blastoise, in order of how much they matter.

  1. Which printing. Blastoise spans 21 sets, from Base in 1999 to Stellar Crown in 2024, and the set symbol beside the picture is what tells one from another before anything else about the card is worth discussing.
  2. First edition and shadowless. 4 of the 32 date from 1999–2000, and on a Blastoise of that age the small “1 Edition” stamp left of the art, or a frame throwing no drop shadow down the right of the picture, is worth more than everything else on this list put together.
  3. Which card type. A Blastoise Tag Team and a Blastoise ex are different cards that happen to share a name — Blastoise has been printed as 8 types in all, so the word beside Blastoise at the top decides which of the 32 you own.
  4. Promo stamps. 2 of the 32 Blastoise cards were promos rather than pack pulls, and a black star, a tournament stamp or a set-launch mark in the corner is what turns an otherwise ordinary Blastoise into the scarce one.
  5. The Delta Species ones. 1 Blastoise card carries the Delta Species treatment, printed deliberately short — if the word Delta Species sits before Blastoise on your card, that is the first thing to tell us.
  • Most Blastoise cards are Rare Holo — 11 of the 32.
  • Mitsuhiro Arita has illustrated Blastoise more than anyone else, 6 times.
  • Cosmic Eclipse carries the most Blastoise cards of any single set (4).
  • Blastoise has been printed under 8 card types: Tag Team, ex (modern), Dark, ex (2003–07), Delta Species, V.
  • No Blastoise card was printed at all for 6 years, 2013 to 2019.
  • 4 of the 32 Blastoise cards come from 1999–2000, the printings collectors ask after most.
  • 16 different illustrators have drawn Blastoise.
  • 25 years separate the first Blastoise card from the newest.
