Venusaur · 31 cards · 1999–2024
How much is a Venusaur card worth?
There are 31 English Venusaur cards, spread over 23 sets between 1999 and 2024. The first was Venusaur in Base, 9 January 1999, drawn by Mitsuhiro Arita in the very first English sets. 4 of them come from 1999–2000, and those trade in a different world from everything printed since — which is why one number for “Venusaur” means nothing until you know which of the 31 you are holding.

What we pay is a different number. These are TCGplayer market prices, worked out from recent sales between collectors, read 2026-09-08. What a buyer pays is always less than what a collector pays, and it turns on the condition of the card in your hand — which is why you get our number on the phone, in one call, before anything is posted.
Spaced by ratio, not by dollars, so the cheap end stays readable. Tap a handle to jump to that card. 2 of the 31 have no market price on file.

What decides the number
Five things about your Venusaur, in order of how much they matter.
- Which printing. Venusaur spans 23 sets, from Base in 1999 to Stellar Crown in 2024, and the set symbol beside the picture is what tells one from another before anything else about the card is worth discussing.
- First edition and shadowless. 4 of the 31 date from 1999–2000, and on a Venusaur of that age the small “1 Edition” stamp left of the art, or a frame throwing no drop shadow down the right of the picture, is worth more than everything else on this list put together.
- Which card type. A Venusaur Tag Team and a Venusaur ex are different cards that happen to share a name — Venusaur has been printed as 8 types in all, so the word beside Venusaur at the top decides which of the 31 you own.
- Promo stamps. 4 of the 31 Venusaur cards were promos rather than pack pulls, and a black star, a tournament stamp or a set-launch mark in the corner is what turns an otherwise ordinary Venusaur into the scarce one.
- The Radiant ones. 1 Venusaur card carries the Radiant treatment, printed deliberately short — if the word Radiant sits before Venusaur on your card, that is the first thing to tell us.
- Most Venusaur cards are Rare Holo — 9 of the 31.
- Mitsuhiro Arita has illustrated Venusaur more than anyone else, 6 times.
- Expedition Base Set carries the most Venusaur cards of any single set (3).
- Venusaur has been printed under 8 card types: Tag Team, ex (modern), V, owner’s card, Dark, ex (2003–07).
- No Venusaur card was printed at all for 5 years, 2012 to 2017.
- 4 of the 31 Venusaur cards come from 1999–2000, the printings collectors ask after most.
- 20 different illustrators have drawn Venusaur.
- 25 years separate the first Venusaur card from the newest.
