Lugia · 28 cards · 2000–2025

How much is a Lugia card worth?

There are 28 English Lugia cards, spread over 19 sets between 2000 and 2025. The first was Lugia in Neo Genesis, 16 December 2000, drawn by Hironobu Yoshida in the Neo era. It has carried 7 of the game's card types over the years — V, VSTAR, LEGEND, ex — and a collector will pay wildly different money for each.

What we pay is a different number. These are TCGplayer market prices, worked out from recent sales between collectors, read 2026-09-08. What a buyer pays is always less than what a collector pays, and it turns on the condition of the card in your hand — which is why you get our number on the phone, in one call, before anything is posted.

Spaced by ratio, not by dollars, so the cheap end stays readable. Tap a handle to jump to that card. 6 of the 28 have no market price on file.

What decides the number

Five things about your Lugia, in order of how much they matter.

  1. Which printing. Lugia spans 19 sets, from Neo Genesis in 2000 to Prismatic Evolutions in 2025, and the set symbol beside the picture is what tells one from another before anything else about the card is worth discussing.
  2. First edition and shadowless. 1 of the 28 date from 2000–2000, and on a Lugia of that age the small “1 Edition” stamp left of the art, or a frame throwing no drop shadow down the right of the picture, is worth more than everything else on this list put together.
  3. Which card type. A Lugia V and a Lugia VSTAR are different cards that happen to share a name — Lugia has been printed as 7 types in all, so the word beside Lugia at the top decides which of the 28 you own.
  4. Promo stamps. 4 of the 28 Lugia cards were promos rather than pack pulls, and a black star, a tournament stamp or a set-launch mark in the corner is what turns an otherwise ordinary Lugia into the scarce one.
  5. The Shining ones. 1 Lugia card carries the Shining treatment, printed deliberately short — if the word Shining sits before Lugia on your card, that is the first thing to tell us.
  • Most Lugia cards are Rare Holo — 6 of the 28.
  • PLANETA Mochizuki has illustrated Lugia more than anyone else, 3 times.
  • Silver Tempest carries the most Lugia cards of any single set (6).
  • Lugia has been printed under 7 card types: V, VSTAR, LEGEND, ex (2003–07), BREAK, Shining.
  • No Lugia card was printed at all for 3 years, 2022 to 2025.
  • 1 of the 28 Lugia cards come from 1999–2000, the printings collectors ask after most.
  • 21 different illustrators have drawn Lugia.
  • 25 years separate the first Lugia card from the newest.
