Articuno · 26 cards · 1999–2025

How much is a Articuno card worth?

There are 26 English Articuno cards, spread over 20 sets between 1999 and 2025. It did not debut in a booster pack at all: the first was Articuno in Wizards Black Star Promos, 1 July 1999, handed out during the very first English sets. 4 of them come from 1999–2000, and those trade in a different world from everything printed since — which is why one number for “Articuno” means nothing until you know which of the 26 you are holding.

What we pay is a different number. These are TCGplayer market prices, worked out from recent sales between collectors, read 2026-09-08. What a buyer pays is always less than what a collector pays, and it turns on the condition of the card in your hand — which is why you get our number on the phone, in one call, before anything is posted.

Spaced by ratio, not by dollars, so the cheap end stays readable. Tap a handle to jump to that card. 4 of the 26 have no market price on file.

What decides the number

Five things about your Articuno, in order of how much they matter.

  1. Which printing. Articuno spans 20 sets, from Wizards Black Star Promos in 1999 to Destined Rivals in 2025, and the set symbol beside the picture is what tells one from another before anything else about the card is worth discussing.
  2. First edition and shadowless. 4 of the 26 date from 1999–2000, and on a Articuno of that age the small “1 Edition” stamp left of the art, or a frame throwing no drop shadow down the right of the picture, is worth more than everything else on this list put together.
  3. Promo stamps. 4 of the 26 Articuno cards were promos rather than pack pulls, and a black star, a tournament stamp or a set-launch mark in the corner is what turns an otherwise ordinary Articuno into the scarce one.
  4. Centering. Hold your Articuno at arm’s length and look at the border: a Articuno with a visibly fatter margin on one side is capped on grade before condition is even discussed, and the Wizards Black Star Promos printings are the ones we see off-centre most often.
  5. Surface. Tilt it under a lamp. On rare holo Articuno cards the faults that cost most are print lines through the artwork, scratches across the foil, and whitening along the back edges.
  • Most Articuno cards are Rare Holo — 10 of the 26.
  • Mitsuhiro Arita has illustrated Articuno more than anyone else, 4 times.
  • Wizards Black Star Promos carries the most Articuno cards of any single set (2).
  • Articuno has been printed under 1 card types: ex (2003–07).
  • No Articuno card was printed at all for 4 years, 2004 to 2008.
  • 4 of the 26 Articuno cards come from 1999–2000, the printings collectors ask after most.
  • 15 different illustrators have drawn Articuno.
  • 26 years separate the first Articuno card from the newest.
