Zapdos · 35 cards · 1999–2025

How much is a Zapdos card worth?

There are 35 English Zapdos cards, spread over 28 sets between 1999 and 2025. The first was Zapdos in Base, 9 January 1999, drawn by Ken Sugimori in the very first English sets. 6 of them come from 1999–2000, and those trade in a different world from everything printed since — which is why one number for “Zapdos” means nothing until you know which of the 35 you are holding.

What we pay is a different number. These are TCGplayer market prices, worked out from recent sales between collectors, read 2026-09-08. What a buyer pays is always less than what a collector pays, and it turns on the condition of the card in your hand — which is why you get our number on the phone, in one call, before anything is posted.

Spaced by ratio, not by dollars, so the cheap end stays readable. Tap a handle to jump to that card. 3 of the 35 have no market price on file.

What decides the number

Five things about your Zapdos, in order of how much they matter.

  1. Which printing. Zapdos spans 28 sets, from Base in 1999 to Destined Rivals in 2025, and the set symbol beside the picture is what tells one from another before anything else about the card is worth discussing.
  2. First edition and shadowless. 6 of the 35 date from 1999–2000, and on a Zapdos of that age the small “1 Edition” stamp left of the art, or a frame throwing no drop shadow down the right of the picture, is worth more than everything else on this list put together.
  3. Which card type. A Zapdos ex and a Zapdos ex are different cards that happen to share a name — Zapdos has been printed as 3 types in all, so the word beside Zapdos at the top decides which of the 35 you own.
  4. Promo stamps. 6 of the 35 Zapdos cards were promos rather than pack pulls, and a black star, a tournament stamp or a set-launch mark in the corner is what turns an otherwise ordinary Zapdos into the scarce one.
  5. Centering. Hold your Zapdos at arm’s length and look at the border: a Zapdos with a visibly fatter margin on one side is capped on grade before condition is even discussed, and the 151 printings are the ones we see off-centre most often.
  • Most Zapdos cards are Rare Holo — 15 of the 35.
  • Ken Sugimori has illustrated Zapdos more than anyone else, 4 times.
  • 151 carries the most Zapdos cards of any single set (3).
  • Zapdos has been printed under 3 card types: ex (modern), ex (2003–07), owner’s card.
  • No Zapdos card was printed at all for 4 years, 2004 to 2008.
  • 6 of the 35 Zapdos cards come from 1999–2000, the printings collectors ask after most.
  • 19 different illustrators have drawn Zapdos.
  • 26 years separate the first Zapdos card from the newest.
